It's not only cyclists who travel to sporting events by bike here. Also, you'll find that football players (soccer to those of you on the other side of the Atlantic), and hockey players, and enthusiasts of all other sports will turn up at their events by bicycle.
Why not ? It's the most practical way of getting about. What's more, all your friends do the same, and you'll see the world go by as you make your journey.
Young and old, rich and poor, male and female, black and white.
You don't need to be "a cyclist" to cycle. Everyone cycles.

Maybe it's just me, but I keep getting this sneaking suspicion that you quite like living where you do.
;-)
You just might be right...
Nearly everyone cycles! My stepdaughter, who of course used to cycle to school - and everywhere else she needed to get to as a teenager - now dislikes cycling a lot and goes to great lengths not to do it any more. But she's probably the only one of her kind in NL - and besides, she still takes to her bike when the need is pressing!
That's the story I keep getting. There are people who claim they "don't cycle", but if you look closely... you find a slightly different story.
Mind you, I'm under no illusions. One of these days I'll find a genuine non-cycling Dutchman.
It's such a reversal from the UK, though. Over there, it is quite normal to never cycle at all for any reason, and I met many people who "used to cycle", but are now "too old", even though they weren't very old at all.
Yes, when I lived in the UK I became too old to cycle once I left school, but I got over it when I came to NL.
